Gospel Reflection

January 19, Monday Mark 2:18-22

In the gospel for today Jesus said: “No one sews a piece of unshrunken cloth on an old cloak. If he does, its fullness pulls away, the new from the old, and the tear gets worse. Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins. Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins are ruined. Rather, new wine is poured into fresh wineskins.”

Will we go back to our old sinful ways if we already knew that Jesus is our Savior? When we already have a personal relationship with Jesus? Of course not! Once we have this personal encounter with Jesus; there’s no turning back anymore, no more backsliding to our old wicked and immoral ways.

When we already have Jesus in our hearts we must journey hand in hand with Him until eternity.

January 20, Tuesday, Mark 2:23-28

Sabbath is refraining from work based on this command: “Remember to keep holy the Sabbath day.Six days you may work and do all your occupation, but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD, your God. No work may be done then.” (Exodus 20:8-10)

This seems to be an encompassing command or rule but we also know that whenever there is a rule there is also a valid exception. And this is what Jesus was pointing out to the Pharisees when He cited: 1st Samuel 21:2-7.

God respects the Sabbath but when it comes to fulfilling a valid need/action, He is way above everything including the Sabbath rule.

Some people specially the old ones are fond of rules or traditions that they have inherited from their ancestors. Sometimes these customs prevents us from being a true follower of Christ.
