Gospel Reflection

January 27, Tuesday: Mark 3:31-35

During the time of Jesus, relatives were called: Mother, Brother and Sister until it evolved to what it is now. Wherein there’s already distinction among relatives depending on the strength of their blood relationship.

In the gospel Jesus’ said: “Who are my mother and my brothers?” Then, He said: “Whoever does the will of God is my brother, sister and mother. All of us regardless of our gender and religious affiliations are His relatives provided we do His will.

What if we sin? Are we not anymore related to God? When we sin we also temporarily end our relationship with God until such time that we humbly submit ourselves to the Sacrament of Confession/ Reconciliation.

Upon the priest absolution of our sin we again become Jesus’ relatives. It pays not to sin, it pays to periodically submit ourselves to the Sacrament of Confession. Because by doing so we always become our saviours close relatives.
