Gospel Ref. [Jan.8]

Gospel Reflections for January 8, Thursday: Luke 4:14-22

Quotations:

"If you write for God, you will reach many men and bring them joy. If you write for men, you may make some money and you may give someone a little joy and you may make noise in the world, for a little while. If you write only for yourself, you can read what you yourself have written and after ten minutes you will be so disgusted, you will wish that you were dead." Thomas Merton

Reflections:
The poor is always close to Jesus’ heart in fact in the Bible Jesus has many statements that are pro poor take for example Luke 14:12-14.

In the gospel Jesus read a passage written by the prophet Isaiah: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring glad tidings to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to let the oppressed go free, and to proclaim a year acceptable to the Lord."

In our own little way we are also being invited by God to become shareholders in the mission of Jesus for the poor. Not only for the materially poor but also for those who are spiritually poor.

We are still in the season of Christmas: Have we already done something for the poor?
