It is easy to find singers with amazing singing abilities. But if you add "a look that appeals to teens" to the conditions, then the number decreases sharply. If you ask for a good song on top, then it becomes difficult to come up with a name.
Skill, look and a good song - a new band with all three beats has appeared! They have already become the hot topic by gathering about 5000 fans for their pre - debut fan signing event and are on their way to stardom in the real world. They are 5 cuties born in 1990 ~ 1992; they are FT Island (Five Treasure Island).
Their music featured in the debut album "Cheerful Sensibility" are upbeat. On top of the sweet mix of pop and rock, lies not at all child like voice. Songs such as "Love Sick" and "I'm Happy" are receiving positive feedbacks upon their release.
Their album is consisted of public - appealing 'emotional' chapter and personality testing 'Island' chapter. Mr. Sungho Han, who discovered K and succesfully debuted him Japan, produced the 'emotional' chapter, and Japanese producer Damura Mizyosi, who worked on albums for artists such as SMAP, took care of the 'Island' chapter.
The way the band was formed was through an audition 2 years ago. Jaejin Lee (16, bass) and Minhwan Choi (15, drum), both of whom have been part of their own band, leader Jonghun Choi (17, guitar & piano), Hongki Lee (17, vocal), and Wonbin Oh (17, guitar & vocal) were selected.
After the selection, the band members clung to exhausting practice in order to achieve, more than anything else, a skill that parallels their appearance.
"We practiced for 10 hours in the studio every day from 1 pm. I missed my parents but it was fun to create music as a band. I figured if I was gaining some, then I also had to lose some." - Wonbin
Wonbin is not only skilled in music but also in martial arts. He has trained in number of sports such as kick boxing since he was a child, and the sum of his levels in various martial arts is about 4 ~ 5.
Hongki Lee first debuted as an actor but later decided to be a musician. He appeared in KBS 2TV children's drama 'Magic Kid Masuri' and MBC TV drama "Bingjun."
Especially in EBS TV, he appeared in numerous dramas such as "Ggangsuni," "I still have light remaining at the edge of my finger nail," "Hanzazidon Dorongi," "Fairy Tale read through TV" and was nicknamed "EBSHongstar."
Hongki expressed his confidence by replying to the shallow critics, "We've practiced really hard for past 2 years. We'll prove this at the concert."
But why a band? With a look like theirs, couldn't they have succeeded even faster as a boy band without instruments?
To this, Jonghun Choi said "I really like the music that comes out at the tip of my fingers. Even though I spent 2 years of my childhood in the studio, I dont regret it at all."
Jaejin Lee also agreed. "I have been in love with the masculity of the base since middle school."
Towards the music they want to create, they all shouted "the music that is entirely FT ISLAND!"
Jonghun is interested in Acid Jazz such as Jamiroquai. Wonbin likes strong rock such as Hoobastank and Muze. Jaejin is a fan of Mr.Big and Red Hot Chilly Peppers.
"We were shaking so much on our first tv appearance," confessed the band. They concluded the interview with a mature comment: "We wanted to emphasize our perfection rather than just sharing music."
